On June 18, the company hosts a public discussion with the creative teams behind two inspiring new operas, Lalovavi and Good Trouble: The Boy from Troy, both of which will receive their world premieres at Cincinnati Opera.
Commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera/Lincoln Center Theater New Works Program, The Highlands workshop culminates in a free, public presentation of excerpts on Saturday, March 23 at Music Hall’s Wilks Studio.
The company also announces the first work in The Black Opera Project, Lalovavi, an Afrofuturist grand opera featuring music by Kevin Day, libretto by Tifara Brown, and stage direction and dramaturgy by Kimille Howard, premiering at Cincinnati Music Hall on Juneteenth 2025

Spanning January to July, the diverse menu of opera-inspired events endeavors to build community connections and offer unexpected and inclusive ways to experience the art form.
Based on George Saunders’s award-winning novel, the work has been commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera and is a co-production of the Metropolitan Opera and Los Angeles Opera. The workshop culminates in a free, public presentation of excerpts on Sunday, November 12.
